My inner lip tattoo. I was happy to be engaged and I am very happy to be married- although marriage as most of us know it, as an official institution that seeks to reinforce patriarchy/ heteronormativity/ monogamy/ reproduction & the nuclear family obviously conflicts with many of my political beliefs. Our decision was not made lightly or thoughtlessly, and when I got this tattoo I was working out what the idea of being “married” would mean to me and to us as two people publicly declaring their love and intentions in the midst of a struggle against a fucked up, patriarchal, capitalist society.
